HIFU
High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) surgeries are non-invasive procedures that use focused ultrasound waves to heat and destroy tissue, often used in treatments for tumors, and prostate conditions.
Fiber optic temperature probes play a crucial role in ensuring these procedures are performed safely and effectively by providing real-time temperature monitoring. In HIFU, ultrasound waves are focused on a specific area of tissue, creating intense heat to ablate or coagulate the targeted tissue. Since precise control of temperature is critical to avoid damaging surrounding healthy tissues, fiber optic temperature probes are used to monitor the temperature of the treated area.

By providing precise, continuous feedback, OSENSA’s fiber optic probes allow the treatment parameters (such as ultrasound intensity and focus location) to be adjusted dynamically, ensuring the target tissue receives the desired thermal effect without causing harm to neighboring tissues.
HIFU needs to reach temperatures that can cause thermal damage to the target tissue (typically between 55°C and 85°C), but overheating can cause damage to surrounding structures. Fiber optic temperature probes help ensure that the temperature is closely controlled, reducing the risk of collateral damage.
