Ablation Surgeries
Fiber optic temperature probes are widely used in RF (Radiofrequency) and laser ablation surgeries to monitor and control tissue temperature, ensuring precise and safe procedures.
RF (Radiofrequency) Ablation
In RF ablation, radiofrequency energy is used to heat tissue and destroy abnormal cells (commonly used for cardiac arrhythmias or tumor treatments). Temperature monitoring is crucial to ensure the targeted tissue is heated enough to cause coagulation or necrosis but not overheated to avoid damage to surrounding healthy tissue.

OSENSA’s fiber optic temperature probes are inserted near the tissue being treated. These probes are highly sensitive and capable of monitoring the temperature in real-time, providing feedback to the surgeon to adjust the RF energy accordingly.
OSENSA’s fiber optic probes are preferred because of their small size, immunity to electromagnetic interference, high accuracy.
Laser Ablation
Laser ablation uses focused laser light to vaporize or coagulate tissue. It is commonly used in the treatment of tumors, prostate issues, or for cosmetic procedures. In these applications, OSENSA’s fiber optic temperature probes are essential to provide real-time feedback and prevent unwanted tissue damage. A fiber optic probe is typically placed near the area where laser energy is being delivered to the tissue. With intimate contact with the tissue, good heat transfer is achieved, and an accurate measurement is achieved.

For laser ablation, OSENSA adds special optical filters to the optical path to block near IR and IR wavelengths that would otherwise blind the system.
Lasers operating above 850nm are suitable, but over 900nm are preferred. The fiber optic probe can fit into a catheter or existing delivery tooling.
Both RF and laser ablation, fiber optic temperature probes are a critical component in achieving controlled, effective, and safe tissue treatment. Please contact us to discuss your application requirements and allow our engineers to help!
