We're pleased to announce that our fiber optic temperature sensing products are approved for marine applications. Marine type certification from Lloyds Register speaks to Osensa’s commitment to delivering the highest quality of products to its customers. The certification process included months of preparation and rigorous testing by independent laboratories. The marine type approval covers both temperature probes and temperature transmitters for monitoring medium and low voltage applications. Osensa’s industry leading sensors can measure from -40°C up to 200°C with accuracies of ±1.0°C for continuous monitoring of electrical hot spots in equipment up to 38kV.

Osensa’s president, Daryl James, commented, “as far as we know, we are the only company in the world with fiber optic temperature sensors certified for marine applications. We are seeing tremendous opportunities in this space with the growing demand for battery powered ferries, offshore wind turbines, and hybrid electric drive ships. The fact that many of these opportunities are centered around the use of renewable and clean energy is exciting. “

Hot spots on medium voltage equipment are common, hard to detect, highly dangerous to personnel, and potentially catastrophic if not discovered in time. These thermal points are typically located inside energized equipment behind safety doors or covers. The legacy approach of locating hot spots and monitoring them with infrared imaging is expensive, inaccurate and potentially hazardous to personnel. OSENSA’s line of products provide real-time monitoring and notification when a temperature problem arises. Expensive monitoring visits are no-longer required, and personnel safety is no-longer compromised.

Marine Type certification applies to the following Osensa products:

FTX-301-PWR+R
PRB-910
FTX-602-PWR+
PRB-110
FTX-910/610/310-PWR+R
PRB-GB3
FTX-301-XFMR+
