Mitigating Risk of Arc Flash Hazards in Data Centers

A recent arc flash explosion seriously injured three employees at a Google data center in Iowa (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/google-data-center-explosion-council-bluffs-iowa-outages/).

An arc flash event is a significant threat to personnel servicing high-voltage electrical equipment and switchgear. OSENSA’s continuous fiber optic thermal monitoring systems alert when maintenance is required and significantly reduce the need for hazardous inspections of live electrical equipment. Microsoft recently implemented OSENSA fiber optic thermal monitoring in a data center in New Zealand. These sensors provide real-time monitoring of the high voltage connections powering the data center to reduce the risk of arc flash and ensure peak reliability.
